Dear John:
Was so happy to receive your letter in Chicago. How do you like Miami by this time? Judging from the card which you sent me from the Five o’clock Club you are getting around. I have been there a number of times.
Live in the barracks at the field. Have been quite busy getting signed in, having shots, etc. Had my parachute fitted today and am going on a trip tomorrow.
We eat at the Officers Mess Hall and the food is alright. Have eaten at the Club several times when I was too late to get to the mess hall. We are members of the Officers Club so at least have some place to go for a drink before dinner. There was a dance at the club (formal) last Saturday and we had a very nice time. Colonel Nelson invited a few people for dinner before the dance. He has been exceptionally nice to us. In fact all of the officers have been alright.
Have had some terrible weather here. There has been so much rain and this place is does not have the proper drainage system so we had to walk around in the mud up until today. Of course we did not do very much walking as the staff cars are available.
I had a lot of publicity in Chicago, which I really do not care for but my Mother and Sisters liked it. As soon as I get things straightened out will send you more pictures.
The girls who were sent to Romulus were are: -Claire Callaghan, Brownie, Vega Johnson, Marjorie Ketcham, MacKinley and yours truly. Vega and I room together.
Have worn your wings a lot. They look beautiful on black in the evening. Do not have my uniform as yet so wear dresses in the evening. Wear tan slacks and white shirts during the day – or a tan shirt. Have had many remarks from the officers at the club…about the wings.
There isn’t much to write about so will cut this short and write you a longer letter next time.

Please excuse this stationery, but I did not want to go to the Officers Club this evening and you can only buy the good stationery there.
Hope you will be able to get up in this neck of the woods when you have another leave, and that I am not out on a trip. Maybe I will be lucky enough to get a trip down your way.
Was fitted for my uniform as soon as I arrived here, but do not know when I will get it. Think you will like them. Will have pictures taken as soon as I get it and send you one.
As yet have not had the snapshots developed which I took in Houston.
Write soon and let me know what you are doing. Always address my mail here c/o Third Ferrying Group etc. and I will get it. Don’t know where I am going tomorrow, but will send you a card from wherever I land.
As ever,
Margaret
