Adams states that he can't make any promises but he is interested in what she is proposing and asks her to submit a rough sketch of the story first, or the story in full if she's sure.

Dear Mrs. Brown:
I’m delighted that you’re interested in trying the Duval Story. I don’t want to promise you a thing, beyond hope and a lively interest on my part, until I see the piece, but from what little I know it would certainly seem that you have an interesting story to tell. If you would find it a lot easier to write us a letter roughing out the story as you conceive it, rather than writing the story itself, we perhaps can judge from that whether or not the piece is going to work out for us. If you feel pretty confident of the story, feel that there’s a market for it somewhere if not with us, then you may prefer to do the story. I’ll leave the choice to you. If it were a story that would involve your doing a lot of research, I’d certainly suggest you do the letter about it first. On the other hand, since you already have all the information, you may want to skip the rough and say your piece right off.
I’ll be looking for either the story or rough – with high hope.
