Description

Originally formed as the Texas Gay Task Force, the TGLTF was the first statewide gay/lesbian organization in Texas. Organized in 1973 for the purpose of planning annual conferences (until 1990), the TGLTF served as the parent organization for the Lesbian/Gay Democrats of Texas and the Lesbian/Gay Rights Advocates.
Official records include correspondence, promotional material, news clippings, and information about other organizations. When the task force disbanded ca. 1990, the records were preserved by former Board member, Edra Bogle of Denton, Texas. Also includes early records of the Lesbian/Gay Democrats of Texas which was started in 1975 and the Lesbian/Gay Rights Advocates which grew out of a TGLTF conference in 1980, with the purpose of hiring a gay lobbyist. In addition, the collection includes records regarding the Gay/Lesbian Association of Denton (GLAD) and the Gay Academic Union - North Texas (GAUNT), both local Denton organization in which Edra Bogle was active. Bogle also kept subject files (primarily news clippings) on AIDS, other similar organizations, and their newsletters, and miscellaneous topics pertaining to gay rights. Access to membership rosters restricted.
